We are living in unprecedented times that beckon us to reflect on the Word of God. These nine days of meditation and prayer are dedicated to the fruits of the Holy Spirit. You may want to find a comfortably quiet space and take time each day to read slowly, listen to God, then ask for the miracle most needed in your life.
What is a Novena and why start one today?
Remember, if just for a second, the astounding events that occurred after the greatest, single episode in human history, namely, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Forty days after He arose from the dead and saved our souls for all eternity, He ascended into Heaven while his closest friends watched in sheer amazement (Luke Chapter 24).
After that experience of watching Jesus go back to His Father in Heaven, the Disciples were waiting for something truly remarkable in every detail, and they were not disappointed. It was Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit and a literal explosion of spiritual gifts and a wave of blessings that has not stopped even to the present moment. That was exactly nine days later.
Pray that your love may increase especially for the most vulnerable and those inflicted with any and all diseases.
Scripture: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Prayer: Lord God, instill in me today the fire of your love and let me be the Good News to all I meet, especially those who are suffering.
Pray that your joy will be kept safe from negative forces, especially when bad news reaches your ears.
Scripture: “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” John 15:11
Prayer: Lord God, let me see your face smiling at me so that I may return that joy to those who are in most need, especially those you have given me to love.
Pray for inner peace amid chaos so that you may see how the Lord is in control and holds you close to His heart.
Scripture: “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world, you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” John 16:33
Prayer: Lord God, I give you my worry and doubt so that you may transform it within your heart and return it to me completely healed. Help me remember that you are always in control.
Pray for patience in the midst of world and personal crises, agitated and anxious about many things.
Scripture: “But for that reason, I was mercifully treated, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life.” 1 Timothy 1:16
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are so patient with me because you love me. Help me remember that wonderful truth especially when I think I have nothing left to give.
Pray for a kind heart in a world that seems harsh and heartless, that you may see God’s fingerprints all over creation.
Scripture: “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.” Ephesians 4:32
Prayer: Holy Spirit, inspire me with a kind heart that I may be a vessel and instrument of gentle compassion to others around me no matter how I feel. This is true freedom.
Pray for a good and merciful heart when you find yourself longing to be with God during these stressful times.
Scripture: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Prayer: Lord God, teach me to feel the pain of others, hide my opinions about their weaknesses, and show them mercy with the great hope that mercy will be shown to me in the measure I give it.
Pray for an end to the painful distancing from a loving, caring, ever-present God, who has never left us.
Scripture: “God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial, he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:12
Prayer: Lord God, help me to remember that my faith is my most prized possession and I want to stay as close to you as humanly possible.
Pray for a deeper presence in this world, walking slower and with profound intention to treat others as we wish to be treated.
Scripture: “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Phillippians 4:5
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please surround my heart and soul with a deep appreciation for all that you have done for me and let me mirror the miracle you have created in me to others especially during this time.
Pray for balance, clarity, and self-control to ensure our sense of purpose and belonging so that the pandemic doesn’t define you.
Scripture: “For God gave us a spirit not of cowardice but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Prayer: Holy Spirit, when my life seems out of balance, you bring everything into focus. Please fill my life with hope and purpose so that I may see your will and find the courage to accomplish it in this life.
