The Word of God

Creation And Restoration

Reflection on Mass Reading for February 11, 2019

“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters.” Our Scriptures open for us today not only the beginning of the Bible from the Book of Genesis, but also the beginning of the world and the creative force behind all that is and all we experience. Here we have a front row seat, as it were, to the first four installments of creation. Light, the sky, dry land, vegetation, the sun and the moon all given to us from the loving yet powerful hand of the Father. The sheer force of divine love creates the entire universe in the blink of an eye and the care of the God who loves us all so much.

The Gospel continues these thoughts with the Son of the Father, Jesus the Christ who continues the work of creation through the restoration of human beings through healing and miraculous love: “Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.” The same principle is true for all of us today, right now. Great creative and restorative things will always happen, both externally and internally when we remain close to the Lord and run to Him always. This is true confidence in the one who loves us so much that He would rather die than live without us. Start every morning by first speaking with Him. He loves hearing from you and you’ll be very glad (blessed) that you did. He is right there.

A God wise enough to create me and the world is wise enough to watch out for me. Philip Yancey
